If I were Mayor Contest Winner

The Mayor and Council extend sincere congratulations to Zoe Litton, 4th grader at Beall Elementary for  winning the Maryland Municipal League's "If I were Mayor" contest for Allegany & Garrett Counties.  Many thanks to her teacher Dr. Carley McGann and principal Misty Twigg Dotson for their encouragement.

If I were Mayor

If I were Mayor, I would do everything in my power to support my amazing town's beauty and soul. My slogan for Frostburg would be “Marvelous. Mountainous. Home.” That sounds right for Frostburg because it’s marvelous to me, it’s definitely mountainous, and it’s home to so many amazing people! We always have lots of parades and activities! There’s something called Cocoa with the Po Po, which is when the police take tourists into the jail cells for pictures and then drink hot cocoa with them. We have a super cool bike trail called the Great Allegheny Passage. It's really fun! We can get all kinds of exercise while seeing really cool sights like the tunnels and the flower field with all the animals! Also, the Police Department is close to Beall Elementary so we always feel safe in our school. I never go to bed scared that I won’t be protected by all of our firefighters and police officers. A few things I would do to get more visitors would be to support funding our parks and support and advertise our city’s favorite local businesses like Lorenzo’s Bakery, where the best donuts ever are made, Main Street Books, where you can get all types of books,the Ladybug Boutique, which is the perfect place for tourists looking for something to take home, and my favorite place to shop, The General Art Store! Another thing I would do is  to start a Girls Can Code summer camp where girls who are interested in computer science can learn how to program!  If you're an outdoorsy person you will love all the hiking trails and state parks around Frostburg. I love beautiful, marvelous, and mountainous Frostburg!
