Keeping Chickens in Frostburg

Article 11 of the Frostburg City Code permits City residents to keep up to six (6) live chickens on their property.

Under the ordinance, Frostburg residents must apply for a chicken license permit from the city and provide evidence of a current Maryland Department of Agriculture registration, unless exempt under state law. The permit is $30. Residents in possession of chickens must acknowledge the city's right to inspect all coops and accept sole responsibility for the livestock, according to the ordinance.

The ordinance prohibits any commercial use of the chickens such as breeding, sale of eggs and fertilizer production. Roosters may not be kept in the city.
