The Frostburg City Police Department is a professional full-service law enforcement agency operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  The Police Department is under the command of Chief Royce C. Douty.  Frostburg Police Officers are among some of the finest trained and equipped Police Officers in the region.  FPD Officers work in a diverse environment and respond to a full range of calls for service.  Frostburg City Police Officers conduct traffic enforcement, community policing initiatives, and criminal investigations.  At times the responding unit assumes the duties of principal investigator for misdemeanor and felony level crimes and is responsible for conducting all facets of the criminal investigation.


Frostburg City is home to Frostburg State University (University of Maryland System).  The City embraces all aspects of being a traditional college town.  Frostburg City Police Officers have an excellent relationship will allied law enforcement agencies and share mutual aid agreements with Frostburg State University Police, Cumberland Police, Allegany County Sheriff's Department and the Maryland State Police.  Frostburg City Police conduct joint enforcement operations and public safety initiatives with all police agencies in the surrounding regions.

The Frostburg City Police is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals that wish to pursue a law enforcement career within a community policing environment.  Candidates should posses exceptional team building skills and a willingness to work in a dynamic and multi-cultural atmosphere.


Frostburg City Police Recruits must be at least 21 years of age, posses a High School Diploma or GED, and have a valid State Driver's License.  Additionally, candidates must meet all MPCTC guidelines for certification as a Police Officer in the State of Maryland.  For a complete list of regulations refer to the Maryland Police & Corrections Training Commission.  FPD is a Civil Service Agency.  The Department hiring process includes: Civil Service Application, Testing, and Review; Panel Interview; Cooper Physical Fitness Testing; In-depth Background Investigation; Polygraph; and Psychological and Medical Exams. Upon successful completion of the hiring process, recruits will attend and must graduate from 26 weeks of training at a Maryland Police Academy.  New FPD Officers will then undergo additional Department training with an FTO and must successfully pass all Field Training to be certified as a Maryland Police Officer.
